The Dark Knight Rises Full Bane Costume Revealed

Photos taken from the set of The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh have given us a possible look at the Christopher Nolan version of famous Batman baddie Bane in full costume. So, what do you think? Are you full of rage over the mere sight of Bane in a coat, or has your level of excitement raised even higher? If you're not keen on it, keep in mind that there could always be several other variations to Bane's look over the course of film.

The above photo is but one of several recent on-set pics. They were taken at the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute. I can't imagine this is how anyone involved with the film would have wanted the first full look at Bane to be revealed, especially given their ho-hum broad daylight nature, but this sort of thing is par for the course these days.

This news comes to the GeekSkull from IGN. Head on over to their article to check out the other on-set photos from the shooting of The Dark Knight Rises!

Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers DVD Details

Marvel.com has posted a write up hyping the upcoming Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers DVD:
Get ready to experience one of Thor’s most popular stories in comic history through cutting edge animation and captivating storylines when Marvel Knights Animation's "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" debuts for the first time on DVD shelves nationwide on September 13, 2011 from Shout! Factory, in association with Marvel Knights Animation.

Inspired by the acclaimed graphic novel from Robert Rodi and Esad Ribic, "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" takes a powerful look inside the minds of Thor and Loki, two adversarial brothers in the mystical land of Asgard and seemingly forever enemies. But just why does Loki hate his brother Thor? And could it be that this master of mischief isn’t really the villain he’s been branded? Loki’s insatiable lust for power and his feud with Thor take on new meaning in this resonant epic.

A must have for loyal fans, comic book enthusiasts and collectors, Marvel Knights Animation's presentation of the "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" DVD is packed with insightful bonus content and graphic rich cover, plus a unique replica of comic book-style plastic sleeve that bridges the comic book to DVD concept. Marvel Knights Animation's "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" is priced to own at $14.97. You’ll never see the world of Thor same way again!

Marvel Knights Animation's "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" is produced by Ruwan Jayatilleke and written by Robert Rodi with art by Esad Ribic.

Marvel Knights Animation remains true to the heritage of panel-by-panel graphic storytelling, boasting groundbreaking illustrations, sensational soundscapes, and, of course, the explosiveness of the mighty Marvel Universe. Behind every image and every word lies the genius of Marvel’s celebrated creators like Robert Rodi, Esad Ribic, Brian Michael Bendis, Alex Maleev, Joss Whedon, Reginald Hudlin, John Romita Jr, Warren Ellis, Adi Granov, John Cassaday, and more.

Synopsis:
The great halls of Asgard have fallen silent since a new king has overtaken the throne. His name is Loki, son of almighty Odin, brother to the Thunder God, Thor. Once a powerful trickster--the God of Mischief--Loki now rules a grand kingdom with little regard for its subjects. His only thoughts are focused inward, toward the origins of his own pain and suffering. To quell his torment and to gain the respect he feels he so rightfully deserves, Loki must now execute the prisoner chained deep within the dungeons of Asgard, the one man who has ever shown him love. His own brother.

DVD Special Features Include:
An exclusive look back with writer Robert Rodi and Artist Esad Ribic

Cowboys & Aliens Review

The Jon Favreau directed film adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens hit theaters today. Critical reception thus far is mixed. If you don't mind, I'd like to throw my opinion into the ring. I can sum up my thoughts with one simple question:

Cowboys & Aliens has Sam Rockwell and Clancy Brown. What more could you want?

For full details, plot rundowns, and a crazy as usual message board, check out the Cowboys & Aliens entry on IMDB.com.

Custom Transformers Generations Robots in Disguise Scourge (Black Convoy)

Whether you want to label it Transformers Classics, Generations, or Reveal the Shield, this custom Robots in Disguise Scourge (or Car Robots Black Convoy) update by TFW2005's Jarrod is pure bliss. As seen in the digibash I created when the first image of this mold hit the interwebs, this is the most natural redeco of Reveal the Shield Optimus Prime. Why, you ask?

Ok, time to ramble! RtS Prime was an update of G2 Laser Optimus Prime, which was famously redecoed as an "evil Optimus Prime" in black, teal, and grey five years later for the Car Robots/Robots in Disguise series. Initially called Black Convoy, he would become known as "Scourge" in English speaking countries. Yes, Scourge, but no, not the one you're probably thinking of. But enough of all this historical mumbo jumbo...head on over to the TFW2005 Radicons thread for this beauty to get the full effect!

Now let's hope Hasbro or Takara Tomy gives us an official version of this soon! Until then, I highly suggest picking up the base mold, Reveal the Shield Optimus Prime. It's a damn fine toy! Amazon has one, and some other more recent "Classics style" Transformers, for a decent price (given the eligibility for free shipping):

Transformers Kre-O Optimus Prime Mini-Review

I'll keep this short and sweet. Perusing Wal-Mart, I finally stumbled across some of the new Transformers Kre-O toys. You know, they're pretty much Transformer legos. They're like the old Built-To-Rule line...without the suck. I picked up the cheap $7 Kre-O Optimus Prime out of pure boredom. It's something to do, right? So, how did it turn out?

Construction was fun and the finished modes look ok. The robot has fairly derp legs and hands, but for the price, I don't feel I can complain. The size was more impressive than I assumed it would be, not too dissimilar from a regular Transformer in large deluxe or small voyager size. I'd say Kre-O Optimus is pretty fun overall. The only bummer is that the cheapest assortment does not include Kreons, the cool ass little Lego minifigures of G1 characters. Shame, but fair enough.

I doubt I'll be diving into the more expensive sets with any haste, but I'm sure the praise they're getting is warranted. The other cheaper sets like Mirage might sway me, but I feel I have to pass on anything higher than 20 or 25 bucks. As usual - whether or not you'll be interested probably just depends on whether or not you're into this sort of thing. If you dig Legos and are a Transformers fan or collector open to things that deviate from the norm...you'll probably enjoy Kre-O Transformers a good bit.

If you haven't seen them in stores yet, Amazon has some of the sets for their appropriate retail prices, and eligible for free shipping:

Ryan Reynolds Discusses Upcoming Deadpool Film

From the Deadpool Bugle:
Acción magazine has posted a new video interview with Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern, and at the end of the interview they ask him about the Deadpool movie. Reynolds says: "Yeah, [Deadpool] is being worked on as we speak right now. It's so different from a regular super hero movie; in fact it’s a deconstruction of a super hero movie: Deadpool knows he's in a comic book. Deadpool knows he's in a movie. In some ways it's kind of almost a parody of super hero movies, but at the same time he has his own tragic story. I always say it is a bit of Phantom of the Opera meets Airplane meets Caddyshack."
Sounds ok so far...but I'm not the sort to buy into hype. We'll just have to see! Filming of Deadpool will not begin until sometime in 2012, so we're still a ways away. If you need help gearing up, check out some of this Deadpool stuff from Amazon:

The White House Rick Rolls on Twitter July 27th, 2011

In response to the fiscal policy related tweet of one David Wiggs, a self professed "Energy tech enthusiast and mediocre golfer", the official twitter profile for The White House offered up...a Rick Roll. What?

Though my usual response to the Rick Roll meme is complete derision these days given how damn old it is, I have to admit...when the freaking White House does it, eh, it's kind of fun again.

Weird, wild stuff.

My Experience with Hasbro's SDCC 2011 Exclusives on HasbroToyShop

As reported, Hasbro's San Diego Comic-Con 2011 exclusive toys hit Hasbro Toyshop this morning. Rather excited to acquire the G.I. Joe Sky-Striker Starscream with Cobra Commander set and the two 25th anniversary Zarana figures, I headed over to the site immediately. The page was being hit with hardcore traffic so it took a few tries - but I finally made it into the exclusives section. All three toys were in stock! Without hesitation, I added them to my cart. Again, I had to refresh a couple of times, but I finally got to the cart page wherein you're able to put it in your promo code and then "Proceed to Checkout." Fuck yeah, time to secure some awesome G.I. Joe love!

Except for...not. At this point, the website began timing out. With each refresh, I saw nothing but the "connection reset" page on my browser. But hey, no sweat. I already knew the traffic was bad, and at least I'd gotten this far, right? I kept at it, figuring I'd get through eventually. Some 15-20 minutes later, this proved true. But...but wait. I was looking at the cart page again. What?

I'll tell you what. As I sat there reloading in hopes of paying for my items, the Sky-striker Starscream set sold out right from under me. I got an error message from the site telling me it was gone and thus needed to be removed from my cart. Fuckin' BLERG, man. Though majorly disappointed, I threw a minor complaint about it on Twitter and kept on. At some point I managed to get the listing of toys to work again, and since I was now 50 bucks lighter, I figured I'd go ahead and add the Spider-Man Mighty Mugg to my cart. Why not, right?

So, now I was 30-40 minutes in. I hit "proceed to check-out" once more. No surprise, but the site began to time out again! In a mirror of my first attempt, I sat and refreshed for 10-15 more minutes. Now a bit before 1PM, the cart page decided to show itself again. Hey, guess what, another of the items I wanted sold out while my order was in the void of the unloadable checkout page! Cold Slither variant Zarana had also sold out. Awesome.

Around this time, I visited TFW2005 and saw that the Transformers Prime Matrix of Leadership Optimus Prime had finally been listed. I wasn't initially interested, but hey, it's only 20 bucks, and given the fresh spot in my cart post-Cold Slither Zarana, I went ahead and added the thing once I finally got the page to load. Round 3...fight!

I pressed on to the cart page and hit "proceed to check out" yet again. No surprise at all, but it went absolutely nowhere. Refreshed. Refreshed. Refreshed again. Sometimes it would take me back to the "exclusives" page for some reason, meaning I had to go back to the cart and start the process all over again. It just didn't want to work. That "Proceed to Check Out" button offered nothing but empty hope. Even the main page of the HTS site refused to load during much of this. At this point, I felt...why bother?

I had now sat through an hour and thirty minutes of timed out connections, refreshing, starting over, items in my cart selling out before I could get through to pay, and so on. I saw no reason to continue and decided to call it a day. Besides, two of my most wanted items were long gone and all I was left with was a cart of three seemingly un-purchasable toys, only one of which I even cared for that much. (PS, the standard Zarana is gone at this point too!) Any interest I had was pretty much gone. Sorry that you didn't seem to want my money, HTS.

From what I've read, there are people that have gotten through, but most have struggled with the issues I've listed here and others that arose further along in the process. One guy got to the payment confirmation page, only for it to stop loading before the confirmation button actually came up. Ha. I'm certainly not "raging" over this, but it's a real shame that this couldn't have gone more smoothly. At this point though, I'm embracing the money it's saved me.

Somewhere down the road, I might still try to track down the two Zaranas and a Sky-Striker Starscream set on eBay or some buy/sell/trade toy forum. Perhaps they'll be out there for fair prices once the buzz has died down. But if not, hey, they're just hunks of plastic. I'm pretty sure I'll be ok without them. Still...I certainly would have enjoyed them. Too bad.

Batman: Year One SDCC 2011 Panel Recap from CBR

From Comic Book Resources:
It was a big night -- and knight -- for Bat-fans on Friday as Warner Home Entertainment, Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation presented the world premiere of "Batman: Year One" at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Warming up the crowd with a trailer for the upcoming video game "Batman: Arkham City," Warner Home Video publicist Gary Miereanu introduced the many people responsible for the new animated feature. Not just the panelists, but also special audience members like producers Michael Ulsan and Alan Burnett, composer Christopher Drake, head of Warner Premiere Eva Davis and "Under the Red Hood" director Brandon Viette.

As with previous animated-premiere panels, Miereanu continued the Comic-Con tradition of using every opportunity available to remind the audience of the October 18 release date for the Blu-ray, DVD and on-demand download. After the introductions, it became time to screen the premiere. Or, as Miereanu said, "I'm tired of talking. I want to see the movie! Everybody with me?"

Several rounds of applause broke out throughout the film as the audience watched their favorite scenes from the classic story brought to animated life on the screen. Virtually every scene and every line of dialogue in the film was pulled directly from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's award-winning graphic novel, with very little deviation.

Following the screening was a follow-up panel. Executive Producer Bruce Timm, directors Sam Liu and Lauren Montgomery, casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano, and voice cast members Bryan Cranston (James Gordon), Ben McKenzie (Bruce Wayne/Batman) and Katee Sackhoff (Sarah Essen) came on stage to discuss the movie.

Court Papers Served Against Shocker Toys During Their SDCC 2011 Panel

From Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool:
Yesterday at San Diego Comic Con 2011, Shocker Toys held a panel. Bleeding Cool tagged it as a possibly controversial one. And so it turned out to be. Because as well as attracting an audience of fans of the companies toys, it also received a visit from one upset over allegations of non payment to Shocker Toys creators.

And, possibly a first, one Jim Macquarrie, who has been involved in a number of cases trying to secure creators’ payment and rights, served Geoff Beckett of Shocker Toys with court papers.

Jim later posted on Facebook; “Got the pleasure of serving court papers on a guy who thinks paying his artists is optional. In the middle of his panel at Comic-Con. Kind of a jerk move, but he’s kind of a jerk guy. Shocker Toys.”

Shocker Toys have been a controversial company over the delivery of product and the contracts for the toys they sell, but some opinion had moved in their favour of late. If there are public issues of payment, then that could swing the other way.
Damn. Cold blooded, Jim Macquarrie...but by the sound of it, quite possibly justified. I generally only hear awful things about Shocker Toys, so I'm not really surprised by any of this. I wonder how the hell they'll go about handling it. SCANDALOUS.
